HIGHWAY ROBERY
FOUNDEd by: EVAN + JACKIE STREUSAND
HOW IMPORTANT IS SHOPPING LOCAL TO YOU?
Very. Evan owns a shop here in town and we think it’s more fun to spend money when know
where it’s going.
HOW HAS THE AUSTIN COMMUNITY SUPPORTED YOU?
Austin has always been incredibly supportive of small businesses, which is one of our favorite
things about living here.
WHERE DID THE GENIUS MINI ROBE IDEA COME FROM?
Aren’t those great?! We wanted our company to produce as little waste as possible, so we
brainstormed something we could do with the scraps of fabric that were leftover from
production. Mini robes were the first and only idea we came up with. Who wouldn’t want a
matching mini robe koozie to go with their human-sized robe?
WOULD YOU BE OPEN TO A DESIGN COLLAB WITH A LOCAL AUSTIN ARTIST?
Yes for sure!
TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR DEDICATION TO “MADE IN THE USA”
The whole idea for the brand just kinda screams “Made in USA.” We never wanted to make
them anywhere else. It’s so nice being able to take a 3 hour flight to see our production. We
know the sewers are being paid a good wage.
WHY DO YOU CALL AUSTIN HOME
We’re both from Houston originally, so being close to family is important to us. Lucky for us
Austin also happens to be one of the best cities in the country. The people here are nice and
are doing a lot of interesting things. You can eat the best BBQ and go swimming in Barton
Springs. Not really sure why people live anywhere else.
FAVORITE SONG/ARTIST/ALBUM FOR A SPARK OF CREATIVITY
Talking Heads
BIGGEST DEBATE OF ALL: COFFEE or TEA, BE SPECIFIC ;)
Coffee. Snobby people coffee. Only Starbucks in an emergency.
WHO DO YOU FOLLOW FOR INSTAGRAM INSPIRATION?
Parks Project. Their photos make you want to get your ass off the couch and we’re fully behind
their mission.
GO TO MID-DAY SNACK or ROUTINE FOR CREATIVE FUEL
For Evan it’s a healthy mix of yoga, basketball and Goldfish. Jackie runs solely on Bill Miller
bean and cheese tacos.
WHERE DO YOU DESIGN BEST? EX: HOME, STUDIO, NATURE, ETC.
Home, at our dining room table.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO BE BEGIN THE HIGHWAY ROBERY ADVENTURE
We love wearing robes and the idea for Highway Robery was one that we just couldn’t get out of
our heads. Whenever we have an idea that we keep coming back to again and again we know it
has to be done.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST EXCITING MOMENT SO FAR OF HIGHWAY ROBERY
We did a collaboration with the dating app Bumble that’ll be out this spring. Really though, it’s
that people keep on buying these robes and that the business is already able to sustain itself.
We’re just excited that we get to keep doing this.
HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE YOUR BRAND STANDS OUT
Highway Robery is about as true an extension of ourselves as it could possibly be, and since
there are no other Evans and Jackies out there it’s innately a wholly unique thing.
WHO HAS HAD THE MOST CREATIVE INFLUENCE ON YOUR LIFE
We bring a lot out of each other.
HOW HAS SOCIAL HELPED YOUR BRAND?
It allows us to reach anybody in the world. It’s how we’ve gotten the bulk of our customers.
WHAT OTHER ARTISTS HAVE YOU LOVED COLLABORATING WITH, IF ANY?
We always really enjoy doing photo shoots with the robes, and the photographers we’ve worked
with have all been great to collaborate with. Shout out to Zachary Hunt, Cameron Jordan and
Daniel Ridjon.
TELL US ABOUT THE QUALITY OF FABRIC YOU CHOOSE TO USE IN YOUR ROBES?
We use up-cycled fabric for all of our robes. We pick fabrics that we’d want to put on our bodies.
WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR CREATIONS
We use existing fabrics to make our robes, so every print we do is on a limited basis. There
might only be 10 robes of some of the prints we use.
